Elías López Miró, born in New
York in 1974, raised in Puerto Rico, realized his
passion for art at the very early age of 5. Mr.
López Miró has always been inquisitive
about the vast mediums in which he could express
his creativity. He began to draw at least one thing
from his daily life, from that year on. By the time
he was 7 or 8 years old, he could draw just about
anything he saw. Teachers always asked Mr. López
Miró to draw on the top border of the chalk
board. Drawings related to the season of the year
and some of the posters in the classroom with scenes
related to any story or book that they were reading
at that moment. He quickly realized there was a
potential for his talent. Mr. López Miró
began to sell posters for the other student's book
reports and presentations in high school. This created
a feel for the way that he would begin marketing
his talent.
After high school, Mr. López Miró enrolled
in the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. It was
there that Mr.López Miró became an athlete
(Olympic Weight Lifting), sold his paintings, as well
as, worked as a photographer. He painted murals in an
effort to pay for his education in Visual Arts. As an
athlete, he achieved recognition, becoming the national
champion at the Novice Competition in 1993
(establishing new records). Fascinated with the human
figure, Mr. López Miró, dedicated the
next few years of his life to the sport that paid for
his tuition. He began winning national and international
competitions in the Carribean Islands and Venezuela.
Heestablished some national records and became the national
champion in 1995.
Mr. López Miró also dedicated his
life to study the human anatomy and the different
ways of expressing his art. While being a full time
athlete, full time student and dedicated to learning
and becoming the best at everything he does, Mr. López
Miró had very little time for anything else.
Mr.López Mirós teachers quickly recognized
his talent encouraged the artist to explore different
techniques. However, being in college was not so easy
for Mr. López Miró. He did not have
much money, but
he did have a lot of; belief, perserverance and will.
During the hard times he created this painting "Pulling
my own chains." This was to constantly remind
him that could be anything that wanted to be as long
as he didnt pull on he's own chains and restrict himself
from believing that he could do anything. If he tried
hard enough and believed, he could achieve anything
he put his mind to. So against all odds, he graduated
from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts
that consisted in three Majors: 1) Painting and Graphic
Arts, 2) Sculpture and Pottery, and 3) Photography.
Mr. López Mirós interest and continuous
hard work has turned him into a multifaceted artist
who masters drawing, painting, sculpting, airbrush,
photography, and much more.
The artist's love for art, individual style, sense
of composition and bold use of design has earned him
several awards including: Best Mural design
from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico;
Best Mural award from the Museum of Puerto
Rican Art in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Stage Scenario
Director of the Year during 1992 awarded
by the Puerto Rico Department of Education.
Mr. López Miró currently
works as a Art Director and Web Designer in Orlando
Florida,
Mr. López Miró, looks forward to gaining
support and recognition for his artwork.
